Finnaly we Poped out on to Hwy 35! It was pretty late and Popi was BEAT!
We were pretty disappointed in the Redwoods here. This whole forest was clear cut from the ocean to the top of the ridge that we were climbing to. It was very sad. This road that we were using was the main logging road back in the late 1800’s early 1900’s. So in a thousand(or 3) years or so this will be like it was when a handful of men cut it down for one or 2 mens profits.
The road had gotten a little better when ahead we saw some orange barricade. Oh man.
When in doubt or dispair. Just pull over and eat some sunflower seeds and wasabi peas!
After getting his ass handed to him(It’s not easy riding a fully packed bike and trailer in these conditions) Popi was more then a little bummed when we got to the cut off trail and it was single track, with poison oak on both sides. With trolly the trailer this was not gonna be an option. Oh man.
Uhm,Yeah. So i was expecting Popi to turn us around and head back down the Mountain. The recent rains had turned the trail into a cyclocross course! Popis pretty hard headed tho and said that we just had to make it to this other trail that would get us out onto a nearby road . So we slogged thru the mud and water.
Finally we were “There”. Popi told me that Googlemaps had told him that we would just take this bike trail from here! No cars,No trucks,No problems! Right?
The road just kept going up,higher and higher. Meanwhile the road was getting narrower and narrower. No shoulders, with drop offs right of the road.
It was pretty darn steep. So we pulled over for a break and some yummy almonds!
Life in the micro.
